SUBJECT: NALELI EA BASOTHO GEOMETRY
STATUS: ARCHIVED
THE BLUEPRINT
Naleli ea Basotho (The Star of the Basotho) is a geometry born from a dual dedication: a tribute to my daughter, Naleli, and a structural exploration of the Mokorotlo—the soul of Lesotho’s visual identity.
In this study, the traditional Basotho hat is stripped of its profile silhouette and reimagined from a top-down aerial view. By rotating and interlocking these circular foundations, the architecture of the Mokorotlo converges to form a singular, radiating STAR.
[ ARCHITECTURAL SPECS ]
- SYMMETRY: Radial Hexagonal convergence.
- VISUAL DATA: Top-down projection of the Mokorotlo weave.
- SYMBOLISM: The guidance of a star; the permanence of the crown.
[ TACTILE REGISTRY ]
To honor the depth of this geometry, the Naleli ea Basotho series is rendered in three distinct technical textures, each offering a different structural interaction with light and shadow:
| TEXTURE | PROPERTIES |
|---|---|
| SATIN | High-lustre finish; fluid motion; visual clarity. |
| POLY WEAVE | Industrial durability; crisp geometry; everyday utility. |
| TWEED WEAVE | Heavyweight tactile; high-density structural integrity. |
